Flying 101
Flying isn't that hard, it's that we weren't designed to sit in those silly seats
for that period of time.
There are three major tips which I pass on to my patients, and for good reason. When you fly a lot, the
big concern for people is getting sick at the other end. I say: RUBBISH! If you were that concerned about recycled
air, you wouldn't enter the airport. Wait. Those are the SAME people on the flight, and you are still breathing
recycled air.
There are three big tips to go by when flying:
Drink LOTS of fluids before getting on the plane. You should want to go pee when you get aboard and
want to continue drinking when you are there. Why should you drink lots of water?
Your immunity against airborne diseases occurs primarily in your sinuses. Since the planes pressurize the air
on flights, the air needs to be devoid of water or it will deteriorate the tanks. So the air on board has no humidity
in it, which dries out your sinuses. Since you can't swallow the snot in your nose, or blow it out, or even make boogers
with it, the bad bugs have direct access to your sinuses, and into YOU. To prevent this, go to the drugstore and buy
a nasal mister, something that will hydrate your sinuses and give you back the ability to fight airborne infections.
Lastly, use the worthless little pillow they provide on the flight to support your back. However, don't put in
behind your low back, as a lumbar support. PUT IT HIGHER, behind your "bra strap" area. This will keep you from adopting
the "C" spine that the seat inevitably puts you into, and breathe your new and improved, hydrated air... you'll be awake,
healthy, and able to take a great snapshot of yourself for our office staff! Enjoy your trip!
